Deleting iTunes Duplicate

 

Duplicate media entries on iTunes is a major problem for iTunes users. For fortunately Apple has provided a script to solve that particular problem, to use of it you just need to do the following simple steps in  that order:

  1. Close iTunes if you are currently using it or if you have it open
  2. Go to the internet and search for RemoveDeadTracks.txt  web page, right-click on it to download it, and save the page as a  java-script file, make sure you change the file extension to .js. From .txt. So for example, if you use firefox, right-click on the page and choose Save page As”  and rename the file name from RemoveDeadTracks.txt to RemoveDeadTracks.js.
  3. Then open Windows Explorer and browse to the file you have downloaded
  4. Double click on the file to execute.

The script will automatically open iTunes, and then start searching through and removing any dead links it finds.

There are several not for free software packages that exist that can do this sort of clean up. You can find many of them by doing a simple Google search.

A very simple approach to this problem could be to use the following steps:

  1. Copy the iTunes files into a folder on your computer, when it finds a duplicate file, click “yes to all” this basically just deletes every duplicate for you.
  2.  Delete all songs on your iTunes.
  3.  Move all the songs back to the iTunes folder.
